Is it strep throat?

November 19th, 2008 No comments

Well, I had my appointment at NorthBay today with nurse practitioner regarding the irritation in my throat.

The nurse was very nice and thought I might have strep throat, so they took two swabs, one that would yield immediate results and another to be sent to a lab. Strange that when they thought it might be strep, I could dicern a bit of nervousness when they came close to take those samples. The presumptive test came back negative in the office, so I was prescribed penicillin for 10 days just in case.

I have no idea what it could be, but I’m glad I’m having it checked.

Weird irritation in my throat

November 18th, 2008 No comments

Riding home on the train this evening, I became aware once again of an irritation in my throat, just in back of my tongue. Felt like a had a popcorn kernel stuck on the back of my throat over the past couple of weeks, but it seemed to be something more tonight. Stuck my finger in my throat and felt a swelling near my tonsil on the right side. That’s not normal I thought to myself.

So when I got home, I showed it to Denise and she was alarmed and thought I should make an appointment with NorthBay first thing tomorrow morning. Probably something having to do with my tonsil, not sure.
