Update

I had another radiation zap today. No real issues, other than the pain in my face because of this out-of-control acne rash. I also met with the radiation oncologist, Dr. Suplica (Dr. Jones‘ associate) about how things are going. We talked about a mouthwash he would recommend later when I had real sores in my mouth. We also talked about the need to continue to keep my caloric intact up through this treatment. Lots of calories and protein should keep me from losing lots of weight when things get tougher in a week or two. Denise was able to take a couple of photos of me on the radiation table too.

My eyes teared up just looking at the pictures.

I’m so glad that all is going “OK” for you. I know it’s tough and I’m sure the fatigue and mouth issues may get worse but I know you have a great support system helping you out (thank you, Denise!) We love the updates AND the pictures. I agree to keep yourself pre-fed to balance out the weight loss. I think you should know that this is a once in a lifetime deal, not often are you encouraged to eat MORE, not less. ha.

I used a mouthwash & toothpaste called Biotene as everything, including kid’s toothpaste was too harsh for me. But, when I got thrush or whatever they call chemo-induced mouth “stuff” it helped quickly. But my oncologist was insistent that the second I had any different side effect that I mention it to her. She said most can be dealt with if you get to it soon.

Thanks Guyle for the post, I’m praying regularly for you and we so appreciate your friendship (and, of course, your whole family).

    Hang in there,

Nancy (& Vern, who is upstairs practicing his guitar)

Wow. The mask is so high tech looking. Glad they are so precise with the radiation. Just wanted to let you know that Mark and I continue to think of you and are following you through this road-trip! Your blog is a generous way of including those who wonder how things are going but don’t want to keep bugging you guys! The lady who commented above is right about the Biotene. It’s nice stuff w/ no alcohol and formulated for dry mouth.
    Take care! Sara
